Rentals and long-term numbers

What a rental is, how it differs from a one-time number, how extending and cancelling work, and why rentals are sometimes not offered.

A one-time number receives codes for a single service for 20 minutes. A rental keeps one phone number for you for a longer period, from a few hours up to 30 days, and it can receive messages from any service during that time.

Are rentals available?

Rentals depend on our number supply and are not always offered. The Rent a number option appears in the Services tab only while rentals are available, or while you still have a rental to manage. If you see "Rentals aren't offered", there are no rentable numbers right now.

How a rental works

  1. In Services, switch to Rent a number and choose a country.
  2. Pick a duration. The price of each duration is shown before you confirm and is paid from your balance.
  3. The number is yours until the end of the period, and every SMS it receives appears in the rental's messages.

Extending

Tap Extend to book the same number again for another period at the plan price. Extending is only possible while the number can still be reused. If it cannot be, the extension fails and its price is refunded straight away.

Cancelling

  • If you cancel within the first 5 minutes and no message has arrived yet, you get the full price back.
  • After that, or once a message has arrived, a rental is not refunded.

Good to know

  • A rental is still a temporary number. When the period ends, the number can go to someone else.
  • Rentals are not part of the developer API.
  • Rental charges, extensions and refunds appear in your Wallet with receipts, like any other purchase.
